I knew when I planned out these April Interviews I wanted to talk to a team everyone here has seen in action, but may not know much about. Like another very productive partnership, the artist and the writer are from two different sides of the world: KittyKatStarGal from Canada and Deji-Chan from Chile. But the divide only seems to make their team stronger...I'll have to make a note of that for further research. Both work together not only for Winter Wolves, but under their own initiative to create one of my Most Anticipated EVNs for 2014: Autumn's Journey. I hope you guys have fun reading the Interview! I did!
One thing that I've always loved about the EVN Community is how partnerships are formed. Even bad games takes months, if not years, to go from concept to final product and the different members of a team aren't necessarily sitting in the same room every day. So the connections that form the foundation run a bit deeper than you can put a dollar amount on, otherwise the various teams that make up this community wouldn't get done. I haven't completely figured it out yet, but I know beyond the creativity and talent we have here, the Power of Teamwork ( for a lack of better words), is something that we should not only be proud of, but new creators looking to form a partnership to create an EVN should try to learn from.

Welcome everyone to April! While it may not feel like Spring depending on your location in the world (looking at you Canada), here at the HQ we want to enjoy this little middle ground between the Center-Of-The-Earth Heat we'll be getting in a few months and the Frozen Tundra that was Winter. So this month, you won't just be getting one Interview; you'll be getting FOUR. It'll be a mixture of familiar faces and new interests: with each story reflecting what makes the EVN Community such a creative place.
So let's get started with an incredible talent. Returning just for NaNoRenO; Auro-Cyanide! Enjoy! It is always a special privilege to talk to one of the hardworking developers in the EVN community: especially right now in the middle of a very busy 2014. Originally I had planned to make this a key feature in the newsletter I wanted to start in February, but after a test run I realized that it would JUST be this feature and so we are back to the old format that will, by the will of those greater than I, stick around this time!
This month I was fortunate to sit down with the extraordinarily talented Bishop Myers. Bishop leads up Project BC: a collective originally focused on Role-Playing Games, but has begun to branch into EVNs. Their next title, Vacant Sky Awakening, is a hybrid of both genres that promises a tale many secretly enjoy, but rarely admit to: the rise of the villain. I hope you enjoy the interview! For our June Interview, I had the opportunity to sit down with Dischan's Jeremy Miller AKA Dani. We talked before when Dischan was just beginning to get legs and a lot has happened since then. Here we talk about 2012's Best Drama EVN Juniper's Knot, their recently released first episode of Dysfunctional Systems and a bit about the future. Enjoy!
Annnd we're back! As much as I've always loved this particular feature, truth is I just got run down in the later half of the year and wanted to try something new. However, by popular demand, the Monthly Interview is back! So, who would be first to help me ring in the glorious return? Well, considering on her word not one but TWO new categories for our yearly Best Of awards were created, I would be derelict if I didn't start with an extremely intelligent and talented young woman who also happens to be a major schoolgirl pirate enthusiast! So I hope you enjoy this moment in time with writer, EVN editor and Editor-in-Chief of Keystroke Magazine, Shadocchi AKA Shadow.
With the summer rolling away, it is time to confess that really in the terms of ‘EVN Summer Blockbusters’ so far there has only been one and that is a visual novel VNs Now has been following almost since the beginning: Cinders by Moacube. After watching it explode on the internet and seeing the indie press shower the EVN with rave reviews, I knew I had to get in and talk with the people who made it happen. So, in an Olympian effort on behalf of Tom that would make Usian Bolt weep in jealousy, I am honored and privileged to speak not only with Tom Grochowiak again but the entire Moacube crew: artist Gracjana Zielinska, writers Hubert Sobecki & Agnieszka Mulak and musician Rob Westwood!
For the rest of our coverage of Cinders, check it here and here! For most of you, this young lady will not need an introduction. Sakevisual's Ayu Sakata has been a part of the EVN community longer than I knew it existed. In that time, Sakevisual produced six original titles while partnering to deliver visual novels like Winter Wolves' Winter in Fairbrook. She is a talented actress, avid food artist and rabid Tim Drake fangirl (not kidding on that one). Now, she is working on a horde of new projects, including the next chapter of the award-winning Jisei Murder Mystery Series.
It is a tremendous honor to sit down with Miss Sakata this month. Enjoy the interview! There is no one in their right mind who cannot deny the massive level of talent in the EVN community. Trying to narrow it to a single list is impossible and extremely controversial (which means I may try to one day) but somewhere on that list has to be KomiTsuku: Chief of I Don't Have A Studio Studios. Mixing sharp comedy and intriguing drama, his titular game Anton's Vacation earned a Best Of nod at the beginning of the year. With an ambitious plan for the 'Shonen Jump of EVNs' at the beginning of the year, those plans were soon twisted and dashed completely. Now, Chief has stated that his next EVN, Rising Angels, will be his last.
This month, I had a conversation with the one they call Chief to see how everything started, where IDHAS stands now and what the future looks like. Regular readers of this website knows that I had no idea who Christine Love until someone suggested one of her projects to me. Since then, I have defied every bit of Earthly logic to become something of a fan. And after playing the terrific Analogue: A Hate Story (Review Here) I knew I had to interview her.
So without further ado, please enjoy this conversation with one of the most intriguing minds in the EVN world! |
