Here we are at day two of the sale frenzy! WinterWolves has begun their Thanksgiving Sale, which will end on Sunday, December 1st. The entire catalog is 50% off with the exception of Nicole, which is 30% off. Note that unlike the coupon codes used in the past, these discounts are applied automatically at checkout. Be mindful of the bundles however because they have a different pre-existing discount so you will want to purchase the items separately to ensure the full 50% discount on those items.

Hello all!
Many are preparing to spend the day with their family and friends, eat a little turkey, go crazy on some Call of Duty and maybe drag themselves out to a chain store because something they want may be on sale. And I'm not going to lie, most of those things I'm going to do today. But while I have the time, allow me to fully realize the purpose of this holiday. This has been an amazing year for this small corner of the internet. We have grown in ways I could've only imagined when I first started. But as much as we've grown, this community of gaming has grown. A new generation is coming of age and bringing their own unique stories to the genre while the old guard is stepping up to bring bigger and better titles than what we've ever seen before. And all of it is because of the support of this gaming community to encourages talent and a little weirdness from time to time. So this Thanksgiving I want to thank all of you for your friendship and support of this website. I also want to thank all of the developers of English Visual Novels who are all working to get their vision out to the masses. Thank you all and I am looking forward to see what comes next! Happy Thanksgiving, JP Fall sales are now upon us folks, and I shall keep you all updated on the situation. I will do the digging on Steam, Desura, Developer Sites, and more to make VNs Now! a one stop nexus for your sale frenzy! As you can see by the banner the Steam sale will be running through the 3rd, but a variety of sales will be going on with different durations so my coverage will continue until all sales are finished. Keep in mind that Steam runs daily deals, so some stuff is on sale for one price for the duration, and some stuff will be cheaper on certain days. Do not fret, I will let you know the duration of a price if I know it and will highlight daily specials and where possible, Flash Sales (these change every eight hours, so be mindful of that!).
Analogue: A Hate Story is 50% off for the duration of the sale. Hate Plus is 33% off for the duration of the sale. Hateful Days combo pack is 50% off for the duration of the sale, great buy right there! Magical Diary is 75% off for the duration of the sale. Long Live the Queen is 10% off for the duration of the sale. On Desura we have a few sales that may or may not be fall related...it is difficult to tell but since now is the time for people to be buying, I will not ignore them! 1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum is on sale 50% off for...114 Days apparently! Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme is on sale 40% off until Midnight Pacific Standard Time (UTC -8) today. Note it is currently in alpha. So that is what I have so far today. If anything is missing from this list, please, feel free to contact me via comment or twitter and I will be sure to add to the list. From the desk of Will at VNs Now!
Ladies and gentlemen I bid you welcome to this week's news. Get your microphones and audio equipment ready, because Sakevisual is searching for a few good voices. Auditions are open for their upcoming title, Backstage Pass. Backstage pass is the story of Sian Goodin, a makeup artist, trying to make it in the difficult world of show business. The game includes a sizable cast, including several supporting characters, that needs voices. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, December 3rd. The posting has the important details on hand including a useful checklist of things to avoid as you prepare your audition samples. There are also questions answered in the comments as well as an FAQ, here. Good luck to everyone who auditions! Speaking of Sakevisual, remember that fundraising effort to support relief for the Philippines? The results are in with 635 USD raised for the week.
Time for the news; stay awhile, and read! This week started with an excellent interview of Tom Grochowiak, Creative Director of Moacube, on a livestream by JesuOtaku. JesuOtaku is an anime reviewer featured on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses. The stream was viewed by many and was full of wonderful insights on Moacube’s excellent visual novel Cinders. Viewers in the chat asked questions and expressed interest in purchasing the title as well as interest in Moacube’s upcoming project, Solstice. It was surprising that in a livestream by an anime reviewer there were positive reactions to the fact that Cinders did not use an anime art style. Cinders was subverting the common perception of the visual novel for the viewers. Hopefully world will get around that EVNs are more than just an imitation of the Japanese visual novel industry and that they stand on their own merits. This event was good publicity and has been posted to the main page of TGWTG.com. Moacube has received some positive traffic from this, and time will tell just how much impact this will have. Moacube has discussed the effects of social media and other sites on their sales and exposure, so where does this stand in comparison? I reached out to Moacube and the response has been positive, but it is not yet the large scale mainstream breakout we may hope for. One promising aspect of it is that a good number of those who decided to visit Moacube after discovering the interview and posting did choose to make a purchase. JesuOtaku, who is currently writing for a Nicole add-on, is connecting with the EVN community, and may be here to stay. These are opportunities that fans and creators need to be on the lookout for: outlets in unexpected places that might bring in a wider and more diverse fan base. Even with Cinders having been out for a year there are still things that can be done to attract new fans. After all, who would have known that anime fans want to see more non-anime visual novels?
Yeah it’s probably shallow but I had no intention of playing through something where my biggest complaint would be, ‘Yeah I barely paid attention because I was bored, so 5/10’. I’m not sure how other critics address the issue and I’m sure I will have to adjust my view at some point. But, the plus of not talking about what bores me means that when I do go negative, I really do think it’s a negative that has to be taken seriously if the writer wants to improve. At the very least, it means that even if I’m talking about an EVN that’s outside of my interest, I’m usually not bored by it.
But that’s not what you want to hear is it? Fine: Confiteor Deo, Omnipotenti et vobis, fratres quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo, opere et ommissione: Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa. There; happy? I should have talked about Circle Pegasi WAY before now and Days of the Divine gives me an opportunity to correct that. So let’s talk about this great game shall we?
